Description Background: Interleukin-2 receptor beta (IL-2 Rβ), also known as IL2RB and CD122, is a type I membrane protein and member of the cytokine receptor superfamily. It forms the high affinity IL-2 receptor along with IL-2 Rα (CD25) and IL-2 Rγ (CD132). The IL-2 receptor, which is involved in T cell-mediated immune responses, is present in three forms with respect to ability to bind IL-2 (1). The low affinity form is a monomer of the α subunit and is not involved in signal transduction. The intermediate affinity form consists of an α/β subunit heterodimer, while the high affinity form consists of an α/β/γ heterotrimer. Both the intermediate and high affinity forms of the receptor are involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis and transduction of mitogenic signals from IL-2. In spite of the lack of any apparent catalytic motifs, IL2 Rβ is the subunit critical for receptor-mediated signaling via physically or functionally coupling to other signaling molecules, such as the Jak-STAT and Src-family protein tyrosine kinase (2). IL-2 Rβ is expressed on both circulating T lymphocytes and large granular lymphocytes. It mediates the initial phase of induction of lymphokine activated killer (LAK), natural killer (NK), and proliferative activities (3). Soluble IL2 Rβ binds with IL-15 with sufficient affinity to neutralize its biological activities. However, the actual molecular weight as observed by migration on SDS Page is Mr 29-31 kDa. State of Matter Lyophilized Formulation This recombinant protein was 0.2 µm filtered and lyophilized from modified Dulbecco’s phosphate buffered saline (1X PBS) pH 7.2 – 7.3 with no calcium, magnesium, or preservatives. Purity >97% by SDS-PAGE and analyzed by silver stain. Storage and Stability This lyophilized protein is stable for six to twelve months when stored desiccated at -20°C to -70°C. After aseptic reconstitution, this protein may be stored at 2°C to 8°C for one month or at -20°C to -70°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles.
